In a noteworthy development, Nottingham Forest is on the brink of signing Arsenal's goalkeeper, Matt Turner. The USMNT international is slated to undergo a medical examination later today (Monday), signaling progress in the deal.
The Athletic originally unveiled Forest's interest in Turner, and ongoing discussions between the clubs have yielded a compromise, marking a significant step forward.
Meanwhile, Arsenal is actively pursuing Brentford's David Raya to fill Turner's position and provide competition for the current No 1, Aaron Ramsdale. Although an initial offer for the 27-year-old Spaniard was rebuffed, negotiations persist as both sides seek a mutually beneficial arrangement. Raya's contract with Brentford is entering its final year.
Having transitioned from MLS outfit New England Revolution, Turner stands as one of Forest's targeted players. The club aims to address the void created by the conclusion of loan spells for Dean Henderson and Keylor Navas.
Forest's determined pursuit involves talks with Manchester United to potentially bring back Henderson to the City Ground. Key in the discussions is an appearance clause within a loan-to-buy agreement, a pivotal point of negotiation. Henderson, the 26-year-old English international, is striving to regain match fitness following a thigh injury that curtailed his 18 appearances for Forest last season. He has yet to feature for United in their pre-season matches.
Forest's quest for a goalkeeper encompasses interest in Jose Sa from Wolves and Djordie Petrovic of New England Revolution. Both Forest and Ligue 1 side Nantes have seen their bids of $8 million (£6.3 million) for the 23-year-old Petrovic turned down.
Wayne Hennessey and Ethan Horvath persist as viable goalkeeping choices within Forest's roster. Given Hennessey's minor injury, Horvath, another USMNT representative, has assumed an active role in pre-season preparations, following his previous loan stint at Luton Town.
Turner, a prominent figure for the USMNT, faces limited playing time since his move to Arsenal last summer.
